Himachal Pradesh is blessed with varied agro-climatic zones ranging from subtropical to high altitude cold deserts and has a vast potential for successful cultivation of a wide range of crops. University has contributed in the development of states’ human resources by generating eminent scientists, entrepreneurs and work force who have revolutionized the face of farming in our state. Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan (Himachal Pradesh) was established on 1st December, 1985 to undertake quality teaching, research and extension for socio-economic development of farming community. The university has been able to generate production-cum-protection technologies in different areas of horticulture and forestry. Best alternative of land use systems, skill development through in-service training enhanced capabilities. These efforts developed economic prosperity, ecological sustainability and nutritional security in the fragile hills of Himachal Pradesh. During all these years the University has grown to be a formidable centre for education, research and development. I therefore, greatly honour and appreciate the conscious efforts of all the visionaries, outstanding scientists, teachers and alumni for taking many new initiatives in education, research and extension programmes towards this University that responded directly to the challenges and emerging needs of the nation. At the same time I am also grateful to the hard work of farmers and the continuous support of ICAR and State Govt. As we all know, the threat of food security, nutritional security, environment sustainability and natural resource sustainability now needs to be addressed. For all these, technological innovations and applications are required. This would require high quality, relevant agricultural education and technology savvy human resource at all levels. Fortunately, the three pillars of the university, the students, the faculty and the officers & staff, stand committed to do a lot more to serve our state foreseeing bigger challenges ahead. This year Alumni association wants to work to “stay connected” and bring likeminded people together not just share memories and moments but to share knowledge, experiences and time of their eminent members and work towards strengthening our community. This year, the alumni association is asking you to play a large role in the coming year’s scientific as well as non-scientific events. Through the generosity of our alumni, the University can reach to great heights and do wonders. I request the entire Alumni of this University to keep this valued association strong and active so as to enhance education as well as research operations in the institute. It is our belief that this will go a long way in ensuring stable and beneficial relationship and further motivate our present and past students’ community. . Keep us informing of your accomplishments and milestones, it can inspire the students today who are destined to be the leader of tomorrow. If the foundation is strong the structure stands tall even amidst any disaster. As we progress in spreading our roots to explore scientific possibilities of new scientific inventions to contribute in farming community in most sustainable way I encourage all to lookup; strive to achieve new height; reach out to your peers and mentors and for their support and friendship. We feel great pride that our alumni are active contributors to their professions and to their communities around the globe. I pray for your good health, well being and an association that lasts beyond our professional lives.
